Group Home Music is a collective of delinquent musicians, united in the common goal of supporting their many habits, addictions, and/or gambling problems through the art of hip hop.
Group Home Music’s impact on the hip hop world, is perhaps most evident in Central California where the group resides and frequently performs, both as a headliner and as special guest to nationally touring acts. GHM has performed at nearly all the major venues in the area, including Pozo Saloon, SLO Brew, The Graduate, Downtown Brew (Paso Robles), and the Velvet Jones, as well as major venues in the greater Los Angeles area, such as the Whisky A-Go-Go and The Airliner.
In a span of a few years time they’ve shared the bill at live shows and festivals with everyone from the likes of hip hop heavyweights Wiz Khalifa, Yelawolf, Slaughterhouse, Kendrick Lamar, DMX, Big Sean, DJ Quik, Kottonmouth Kings, E40, Too Short, Big Sean, Andre Nickatina, and Chino XL all the way to Punk Rock and Reggae acts such as Pennywise, Guttermouth, Iration, Rebilution, The Green, and Katchafire.
The diversity in the shows they are booked on is the result of high energy, interactive performances with a live DJ (which NEVER EVER features over dubbed instrumentals), and a never say die attitude which has garnered Group Home Music a reputation as an outstanding act to see live, whether you are a hip hop fan, a scene kid, a metal head, or a grandma into blue grass.
Group Home Music consists of three emcees and a DJ. Awesome Ty!, Kare Phree, and sometimes Johnny Dub have been making songs together since 2008, and formed Group Home Music in late 2009 to combat the rise of wack shit taking over the local hip hop scene and to consolidate fan bases in order to give people the best possible product from each of them. After a slate of successful shows and a couple of underground singles, the three songwriters decided to make the group their primary focus, thus abandoning all solo efforts for the time being. In early 2011, the group was joined by DJ Press, one of the area's purest hip hop DJ's. His arrival helped take the group to a new level in both live performances and studio production. The group has continued to thrive since, sharing the stage with some of the most popular acts in the nation and releasing a plethora of street singles while preparing for the long awaited production of their full-length solo debut, "Barely Famous, Fairly Heinous", which promises to be one of the biggest local releases ever seen in Central California.
